 VEC Admissions Policy

Admission to a school/centre or a particular course/activity is subject, in the first instance, to a place being available.

Admission is subject to the following conditions:

  • That, in the professional judgement of the School Authority, (i.e. the CEO or an officer delegated to act on his/her behalf) and following an interview (if deemed appropriate), the student/participant is deemed suitable for admission to a school/centre or to a course/activity.
  • That, in the professional judgement of the School Authority, the student/participant, because of previous education, training or experience, is considered likely to benefit from attendance.
  • That the participation of the student/applicant will contribute positively to the school/centre or to the course/activity and not infringe, in any way, upon the opportunities or rights of other students or staff.

The Board of Management of a school shall not refuse to admit as a student in such school a child, in respect of whom an application to be so admitted has been made, except where such refusal is in accordance with the published admission policy of such school.

The Admission Policy of individual schools is published in accordance with section 15-2(d) of the Education Act, 1998.

All disputes in relation to admission will be referred to the Vocational Education Committee.

Curragh Post-Primary Admissions Policy

Our School was set up to cater for the people of the Curragh Camp and its environs. These include Suncroft, Ballysax, Brownstown, Cutbush, Athgarvan and Ballyshannon.

New 1st year students from this catchment area who have completed 6th class in Primary School will be admitted to our School if they have enrolled on or before 30th September of the year of entry. New 1st year students from elsewhere may be considered if they provide a satisfactory report from their previous school principal and class teacher. No student will be enrolled after 30th September of any year except in exceptional circumstances e.g. change of residence.

The Principal of the Curragh Post-Primary School will check on all students' behaviour/performance in their previous school.

Students seeking to transfer from other 2nd level schools to our School must comply with the conditions of the letter, which will be sent to them when they make an enquiry about a place in our School.

It is vitally important not to cancel her/his place in her/his existing school until you receive written conformation from this school. If her/his place at her/his existing school has been terminated, you must exhaust the appeals system before applying to our school.

  •  No student will be enrolled after 30th September of any year except in exceptional circumstances e.g. change of residence.
