In the Curragh Post-Primary we can only work successfully with you in providing the best education for your son or daughter if he or she attends school each day.
Help your son/daughter to succeed at school by getting him/her there
- On Time
- In Uniform
- With Books and Equipment
Everyday
Why should your son/daughter come to school everyday?
Because-
- The law states that all children are required to attend school everyday.
- It is the responsibility of every parent/guardian to make sure that their son/daughter attends everyday
- It leads to better results at school.
- It leads to better career opportunities when they leave.
- It leads to a better understanding of the material being taught in class.
- It results in increased self-confidence and self-esteem.
Parents/Guardians are responsible for the attendance at school of the children in their care.
- Parents are strongly encouraged to ensure that students have full attendance.
- Poor attendance leads to students making very little progress in school.
- It leads to students becoming frustrated when they do attend because they have fallen behind and do not understand what is being taught.
However our school recognises that there will be times when students will be unavoidably absent from school.
If an absence is known beforehand e.g. dental appointment, then the school should be notified of the intended absence by phone or note in the student's diary.
- No student will be released from school without contact from parents/guardians or a note in the student diary.
- This note must be presented to and signed by the Principal or Deputy Principal.
Reasons why your son/daughter might miss school.
- Too sick to attend
- Has been injured
- Has an infectious illness
- There is a serious family situation
What should you do if your son/daughter cannot attend
- If you know beforehand, as in the case of a dental appointment, a note should be provided in the School Diary,
not a loose page or copy.
- If an absence is not known beforehand then the student must present a note to the class registration teacher on the first day of return to school.
This note must be in the School Diary and not in a copy.
- If a student is unable to return to school after lunch the school should be phoned as soon as possible. This takes very little time.
- If a student fails to provide a note to explain the absence then a note will be sent home detailing the absence. Our school would welcome an acknowledgement of this note.
If your son/daughter has a poor attendance record the school is legally required to forward his/her name to the Attendance Officer at Newbridge Garda Station. This may result in the Parents/Guardians being fined.
- Each subject starts on Day 1 of the school year
- A day missed means a missed skill. It is very difficult to acquire this missed skill afterwards.
