Dear Parents/Guardians
This letter attempts to explain the Discipline Policy operating in our School. We see
ourselves as sharing in your role as parents. As parents you know how important rules are
in your home. You will understand how a school with over 200 students needs a code of
conduct to establish and maintain order.
Our code of conduct has a clear yet flexible set of rules, which provides teachers and
pupils the best conditions for learning and teaching.
The school expects students to care for their own books, the property of others and
school equipment.
Parents should encourage their children to be punctual for school. Full attendance is
necessary to enable students to make progress and achieve in school.
The school expects students to wear the school uniform.
Sanctions will be applied for breaches of the schools code of conduct. These may
include:
- Verbal Correction
- Change position in class
- Have pupil stand
- Issue warning
- Extra homework
- Consult with pupil outside of class
- Detention at break and transcription by teacher
- Transcription at home (related to subject) to be signed by parents
- Detention after school
- Discussion with parents
- Report card for 1 day or more
- Suspension
- Apply for Expulsion.
The procedures for dealing with discipline problems are as follows:
- If a student misbehaves the teacher will firstly try to deal with the problem. Parents
may be asked to meet the teacher and discuss solutions.
- If detention is imposed as a sanction and the student fails to arrive for this detention
then that student may be placed on Report immediately.
- If the misbehaviour persists the teacher may refer the student to the Teacher of
Discipline. Again the student will be advised and may have further sanctions imposed e.g.
"on Report". Parents should take particular note of the sanctions that will be
imposed for a poor report.
- If these steps prove ineffective the student may be reported to the Principal/Deputy
Principal.
- Serious breaches of discipline such as gross insolence, absence from school without
permission or damage to school property may be reported directly to the Principal/Deputy
Principal.
If the need to suspend a student does arise then parents are expected to meet with the
Principal, Teacher of Discipline and Teachers.
All incidents will be recorded and kept on the students file.
